Harrowing drama with Jack Nicholson as Nevada sheriff Jerry Black who is called to investigate the discovery of the body of an eight year old girl on the day of his retirement. He makes a pledge to the child's mother that he will find the killer. Jerry is convinced that the wrong man was arrested for her murder and goes on to discover a series of incidents in the area. All the victims are blond, pretty and small for their age. So he buys an old gas station in the area so that he can search for the man he believes to be the killer.
